Mavis Gregson
After an energy-absorbing career in secondary and further education, Mavis Gregson moved out of London
and began long distance walking, gardening, and writing poetry under the tutelage of Reading poets
Susan Utting and Jane Draycott. In 2005, she produced a pamphlet, small bronze, and has had
poems in Acumen, Magma, The Interpreter’s House, Soundings and The London Magazine.
Chambers
“Men resemble great deserted palaces; the owner occupies only a few rooms and has closed off wings where he never ventures.” François Mauriac
I have closed off the doors
to a room full of light where a child
dresses up and dances
a misbehaving room
for cheek and answering back
a room of memory of play on beaches
a scarlet and lively room
threaded with gold
a very clever room
a room where touches were given and taken
where decisions were made
whether to stay or leave
a room where there might have been a birth
